About Velda Dobson Davis
Pastor Velda is the leader of the Abundant Word Christian Center in Stockton, CA. She is a wife, mom, grandmother to 27, teacher, life coach, and biblical Counselor. Pastor Velda has a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from the Sacramento Theological Seminary, a Bachelor of Science in Career and Technical Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University.
Pastor Velda Dobson-Davis spent more than 47 years with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and continues to run programs after retiring in 2012.
Pastor Velda became certified as a Substance Abuse Counselor through Sonoma State University in 1990 and has developed programs focused on emotional neglect and parenting. In 2018, she created the Felons Against Distracted and Drunk Driving program at Central California Women’s Facility, which focuses on educating individuals about the risks of dangerous driving. Due to the success of the program, she started the same program at San Quentin in 2019. Both programs have created powerful videos in which incarcerated people share their stories about the costs of drinking and driving. In 2022, she developed an interpersonal violence program for perpetrators.
Pastor Velda serves more than 97 individuals who have been paroled after serving life sentences through her Continuity of Care program, teaching what she calls “Bridging the Divide” and “Prescription for Change”. Outside of her prison work, Pastor Velda serves in the community by teaching Bible study for unhoused community members.
